Pittsburgh Man Sentenced for Cocaine Possession

A Pittsburgh man has been sentenced to 16 months in prison and six years of supervised release for possessing cocaine with the intent to distribute, announced United States Attorney Scott W. Brady today.

Vernon Jackson, 50, was sentenced by Honorable Joy Flowers Conti on one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, following his guilty plea in May of this year.

According to information provided to the court, on or about March 8, 2018, detectives from the City of Pittsburgh Police Narcotics and Vice Unit executed a search warrant at Vernon Jackson's residence in Brookline. Jackson was the only occupant at the home at the time of the search. Detectives recovered multiple bags of cocaine, two digital scales, and drug packaging material from the kitchen of the home.

At the time of the search, Jackson was on federal supervised release for a prior federal conviction. He was originally sentenced to 151 months for the offense but his sentence was reduced resulting in his early release.

Jackson's supervised release violation for committing this offense while on federal supervised release is still pending and will be determined at a later date.

Assistant United States Attorney Timothy M. Lanni is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.

The investigation that led to the prosecution of Jackson was conducted by a federally administered Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) headed by the Drug Enforcement Administration and comprised of members drawn from the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation, the United States Postal Inspection Service, and Pittsburgh Bureau of Police.
