Victor Afraid Of Hawk Sentenced for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender

RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA - Victor Afraid Of Hawk, a 41-year-old man from Manderson, South Dakota, was sentenced to 12 months and 1 day in federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender, a crime that carries significant penalties.

According to court documents, Afraid Of Hawk is required to register as a sex offender for life due to a 2006 federal conviction for Abusive Sexual Contact. In September 2024, he last updated his address in Manderson, but began living in Rapid City in November 2024 without notifying authorities. Over the next several months, Afraid Of Hawk had over 175 contacts with the Rapid City Police, yet failed to update his address as required.

Afraid Of Hawk was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. The sentencing took place on January 2, 2026. He was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund and serve 5 years of supervised release.
