Victor E. Silvers, Charged with Murder of Ft. Campbell Soldier
Paducah, KY - On October 15, 2018, a senseless act of violence shook the community at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Sgt. Brittney N. Silvers, a soldier stationed at the base, was brutally murdered by her estranged husband, Victor E. Silvers.
According to court documents, Victor Silvers, of Clarksville, Tennessee, was charged with seven counts relating to the premeditated murder of his wife. The charges include first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, domestic violence, violation of a protection order, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and two counts of the use of a firearm during the commission of a violent offense.
The investigation, conducted by the Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), revealed a horrific scene. A friend of Sgt. Silvers was socializing at her residence when Victor Silvers arrived, armed with a handgun. The altercation escalated, resulting in multiple gunshots, and Sgt. Silvers was fatally shot in front of her residence.
Victor Silvers initially denied involvement in the crimes but later confessed to investigators during an interview. He was taken into custody and made his initial appearance in U.S. District Court on October 16, 2018, before United States Magistrate Judge Lanny King, who ordered Silvers to be detained in the custody of the United States Marshals Service pending further proceedings.
The indictment carries a minimum sentence of no less than 25 years up to life imprisonment or death. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Seth Hancock, Leigh Ann Dycus, and U.S. Army Captain Tarik Downie, Special Assistant United States Attorney.
The indictment of a person by a Grand Jury is an accusation only, and Victor Silvers is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
