Published December 20, 2019

A Chicago man has been sentenced to 70 months in prison for his involvement in a cocaine trafficking operation in Nebraska.

Victor Phillips, 31, was sentenced by Senior United States District Judge Laurie Smith Camp after pleading guilty to possession with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine.

According to court documents, Phillips was driving a vehicle on February 28, 2019, when he was pulled over by the Nebraska State Patrol. During the traffic stop, officers discovered a kilo of cocaine in the back compartment area of the driver's seat.

The cocaine, which weighs approximately 2.2 pounds, is a significant quantity and indicates a large-scale trafficking operation.

As a result of his conviction, Phillips will serve 70 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release upon his release from prison. There is no parole in the federal system.

The Nebraska State Patrol investigated the case, which highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat cocaine trafficking in the region.

Phillips' sentencing serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of engaging in cocaine trafficking and the importance of continued law enforcement efforts to disrupt and dismantle these operations.
