Wichita Man Pleads Guilty to Child Porn Charge

A 47-year-old registered sex offender from Hamilton County, Kansas, has been convicted of possessing child pornography.

Wade H. Dewey, of Syracuse, Kansas, pleaded guilty to one count of possessing child pornography. In his plea, he admitted that on August 2, 2013, in Syracuse, he was found in possession of images and videos depicting child pornography, which he obtained via the internet.

Dewey, a previously convicted sex offender, was found guilty in 1999 in Pueblo, Colorado, on a charge of criminal attempt to commit sexual assault on a child.

The guilty plea was announced by U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom.

Grissom commended the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, the Wichita Police Department, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hart for their work on the case.

According to court documents, Dewey faces a sentence of 20 years in prison, which both parties have agreed to recommend. Sentencing is set for November 3.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting children from exploitation and ensuring that those who commit such crimes are held accountable.

In a statement, Grissom praised the efforts of law enforcement agencies in bringing the case to a successful conclusion.

“This conviction is a testament to the tireless efforts of our law enforcement partners in protecting our children from exploitation,” Grissom said.

Dewey's history of sex-related crimes and his possession of child pornography demonstrate a clear disregard for the law and the well-being of children.
