Walter S. Bernoski, False Statement During Purchase of Firearm, West Virginia 2018

WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA - Walter S. Bernoski, 52, of Morgantown, West Virginia, has been charged with False Statement During Purchase of Firearm. The charge stems from January 2018, when Bernoski allegedly lied on the ATF form when purchasing a 9mm pistol in Morgantown.

Bernoski was indicted on one count of False Statement During Purchase of Firearm. The case is currently under investigation.

The charges were announced by U.S. Attorney Mike Stuart. 'The safety of our communities remains a top priority,' said Stuart.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of West Virginia is working with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to investigate and prosecute firearms-related crimes.

The ATF has made firearms-related investigations a priority, led by Acting Director Regina Lombardo. 'Protecting the public from violent crime involving firearms is at the core of ATF's mission,' commented Lombardo.

The charges against Bernoski are a result of the critical law enforcement partnership between the U.S. Attorney's Office and the ATF.
