William Boothe, III, Home Invasion, Nebraska 2023

Published June 11, 2021

Lincoln, NE - In a shocking turn of events, a Lincoln man was sentenced to 240 months in federal prison for his role in planning and setting up a home invasion that resulted in the fatal shooting of Jessica Brandon on July 31, 2018. William Boothe, III, a/k/a “Bill” Boothe, a/k/a “Uncle Bill,” age 57, of Lincoln, Nebraska, was found guilty of his crimes and sentenced to the maximum sentence allowed under the law.

The evidence presented at trial revealed that Boothe provided the home as a target to Tawhyne Patterson for the attempted robbery and provided information about the residents inside the home. This egregious act of home invasion and robbery is a stark reminder of the senseless violence that plagues our communities.

Chief United States District Judge John M. Gerrard denied Boothe’s motions for a lesser sentence of 120 months based on his age and medical conditions. The judge noted that Boothe would be able to receive the medical care he needs from the Bureau of Prisons. In pronouncing the sentence, the Chief Judge Gerrard told Boothe that home invasion robberies of drug dealers are among the most egregious cases that he sees and directed Boothe to think about the senseless loss of life that resulted from the events that night.

Boothe was also sentenced to three years of supervised release to follow the 240 months’ imprisonment. As a result of his crimes, Boothe will have no chance at parole, a stark reminder of the consequences of his actions.

This case is part of Project Guardian, the Department of Justice’s signature initiative to reduce gun violence and enforce federal firearms laws. Initiated by the Attorney General in the fall of 2019, Project Guardian draws upon the Department’s past successful programs to reduce gun violence; enhances coordination of federal, state, local, and tribal authorities in investigating and prosecuting gun crimes; improves information-sharing by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives when a prohibited individual attempts to purchase a firearm and is denied by the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), to include taking appropriate actions when a prospective purchaser is denied by the NICS for mental health reasons; and ensures that federal resources are directed at the criminals posing the greatest threat to our communities.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Lincoln Police Department. This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of community policing and the need for continued collaboration between law enforcement agencies to keep our communities safe.

The facts of this case are a stark reminder of the severity of home invasion and the need for justice to be served. In this case, justice was served, and Boothe will face the consequences of his actions. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
