Bronx Man Pleads Guilty to Cocaine Distribution Charges

A 56-year-old Bronx man has pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute more than 5 kilograms of cocaine, according to a Grimy Times investigation. William Gonzalez, 56, of the Bronx, New York, admitted to distributing at least 5 kilograms of cocaine to a co-conspirator between August 2018 and September 2019.

As part of his guilty plea, Gonzalez admitted that he met the co-conspirator in a parking lot in Saratoga Springs, New York, and exchanged cocaine for cash. He further admitted that on September 25, 2019, he sold 1 kilogram of cocaine to the co-conspirator in exchange for cash. Gonzalez knew the co-conspirator would further redistribute the cocaine.

Gonzalez faces a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of 10 years, and a maximum sentence of up to life in prison, and a term of post-imprisonment supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life. Sentencing is scheduled for January 12, 2021, before Chief United States District Judge Glenn T. Suddaby.

The case was investigated by the DEA and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashlyn Miranda. Several co-defendants were previously charged and/or sentenced in connection with this case.

Nestor Cordero-Hernandez was sentenced to 87 months in prison to be followed by a 3-year term of supervised release. Victor Aguero Vasquez was indicted on charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine, and distribution of cocaine. April Allen was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

These defendants are merely allegations, and they are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Gonzalez's guilty plea and the resulting charges against these defendants demonstrate the ongoing efforts to combat cocaine distribution in New York.
