William H. Paris Jr., Failing to File Tax Returns, California 2013
Oakland, California, resident William H. Paris Jr., also known as Bubba Paris, is facing a serious charge: failing to file federal tax returns. The 57-year-old man, from Discovery Bay, Calif., was charged yesterday with violating Title 26, U.S.C. § 7203, a class A misdemeanor.
According to a Criminal Information, Paris received a total of $182,742.96 in gross income from 2006 to 2008. Despite this, he failed to file federal income tax returns for those years as required by law.
The maximum statutory penalty for each count of failure to file a tax return is one year in prison and a fine of $100,000. However, any sentence following conviction would be imposed by the court after consideration of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and the federal statute governing the imposition of a sentence, 18 U.S.C. § 3553.
Paris is scheduled to be arraigned in federal court in Oakland, before United States Magistrate Judge Kandis A. Westmore, on March 4, 2013.
The prosecution is the result of an investigation by the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation.
The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Charles Parker.
