William Houghton, Assaulting Prisoner, Florida 2014

William Houghton, a U.S. Bureau of Prisons Correction Officer, has been charged with assaulting a prisoner and obstructing justice in Coleman, Florida.

According to the indictment, Houghton struck the inmate repeatedly in the head and face on March 22, 2014, causing injury to the prisoner.

Houghton and his colleague, Eddie Rodas-Castro, were also charged with obstruction of justice for falsifying BOP reports and making false statements to federal investigators regarding the assault.

The case is being investigated by the FBI and the U.S. Office of Inspector General, with Trial Attorney Roy Conn of the Civil Rights Division and Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Bodnar of the Middle District of Florida prosecuting the case.

An indictment is merely an accusation, and Houghton is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
