William Loren Hoffman, III, Firearms Violation, West Virginia 2018

A Berkeley County man has been brought to justice for his role in an illegal firearms sale. William Loren Hoffman, III, of Falling Waters, West Virginia, was sentenced to six months incarceration for a firearms sales violation, announced United States Attorney Bill Powell.

According to the indictment, Hoffman, age 52, sold a .45 ACP caliber Hi-Point rifle and knowingly failed to make an appropriate entry of the sale in his records. The crime took place in October 2018 in Berkeley County.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that has been historically successful in bringing together all levels of law enforcement to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. The Attorney General’s Office has made turning the tide of rising violent crime in America a top priority.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara K. Omps-Botteicher prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated.

Hoffman was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh. The case is a prime example of the efforts being made to combat firearms-related crimes in the region.

As part of the sentence, Hoffman will serve six months in prison. This sentence underscores the seriousness with which the courts take firearms sales violations.
