William Prater, Conspiracy to Possess Methamphetamine, Georgia 2018

A prisoner at the U.S. Penitentiary-Atlanta (USP) has pleaded guilty to plotting to smuggle methamphetamine into the facility. William Prater, 35, of Cleveland, Tennessee, conspired with his fiancée, Genia Letson, to obtain the illicit substance.

According to court documents, Prater used a contraband cellphone to coordinate with Letson, who traveled from Cleveland to Atlanta to bring the methamphetamine to Prater during a visit in the prison's visitation room. Guards witnessed the handoff and seized the drugs.

Prater was already incarcerated at USP-Atlanta for violating the terms of his supervised release following his 2010 conviction for manufacturing methamphetamine.

U.S. Attorney Byung J. 'BJay' Pak stated, 'Prater's audacious attempt to obtain drugs in a federal prison demonstrates his continued lack of respect for the law.'

Special Agent in Charge of FBI Atlanta, Chris Hacker, added, 'Instead of using his time in prison to rehabilitate, Prater chose to continue similar criminal acts that led to his incarceration.'

Prater pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute more than five grams of methamphetamine. Sentencing has not yet been scheduled.
