William Walter Batten, Methamphetamine Offense, Iowa 2019
A Council Bluffs man has been sentenced to prison time for his role in a methamphetamine offense.
William Walter Batten, age 46, was sentenced by United States District Court Senior Judge Robert W. Pratt on October 1, 2019, for Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine.
According to court documents, Batten was stopped by the Council Bluffs Police in October 2018 while driving a motorcycle. During the stop, officers discovered that Batten did not have a motorcycle endorsement or insurance.
During the search of the motorcycle, officers located over 50 grams of methamphetamine. Batten was subsequently arrested and admitted to having the methamphetamine.
A search warrant was obtained, and officers confirmed the presence of the methamphetamine. Batten pleaded guilty to the charge in March 2019.
The case was investigated by the Council Bluffs Police and the Southwest Iowa Narcotics Task Force. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.
Batten was sentenced to 10 years in prison, to be followed by a term of supervised release of five years.
