Yamin A. Harris, Hobbs Act Robbery and Firearm Violations, Pennsylvania 2024

Published April 23, 2025

“Hobbs Act robbery charges are nothing to take lightly,” said authorities in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A resident of the city has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of Hobbs Act robbery and violating federal firearms laws.

The three-count indictment named Yamin A. Harris, 31, as the sole defendant. Harris is accused of committing a Hobbs Act robbery at a Monroeville, Pennsylvania, fast food restaurant on December 29, 2024. He allegedly carried and brandished a firearm in furtherance of the robbery and unlawfully possessed that firearm as a previously convicted felon.

According to federal law, it is prohibited for a convicted felon to possess a firearm or ammunition. Harris could face a maximum total sentence of up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both. The actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history of the defendant.

Assistant United States Attorney Rebecca L. Silinski is prosecuting this case on behalf of the United States. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Monroeville Police Department, and Pitcairn Police Department conducted the investigation leading to the indictment.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence. On May 26, 2021, the violent crime reduction strategy was launched to strengthen PSN based on core principles including fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.

An indictment is an accusation. Harris is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
