Omaha Woman Sentenced to 1 Year and 1 Day in Prison for Health Care Fraud

A hard-hitting indictment against Zenia Miller, owner of Home Care Services, Inc., has ended in a guilty verdict and a lengthy prison sentence. According to federal authorities, Miller was found guilty of inflating or causing the inflation of monthly claims submitted to Nebraska Medicaid for reimbursement.

The scheme, which spanned from at least February 2012 to September 2014, involved adding hours to each recipient's monthly claims to appear as if they had received the maximum number of service hours authorized. This resulted in fraudulent claims totaling $294,263.00.

Zenia Miller's company, Home Care Services, Inc., provided Personal Assistance Services to Nebraska Medicaid recipients and had an agreement with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services to provide Chore Services to low-income recipients.

The investigation into Miller's scheme was a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services – Office of Inspector General, and the Nebraska Medicaid Fraud and Patient Abuse Unit of the Nebraska Attorney General's office.

As a result of the investigation, Zenia Miller was sentenced to one year and one day imprisonment, three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $294,263.00 in restitution.

The sentencing date was September 2, 2016. Miller's actions were found to be in violation of federal laws, and her sentence reflects the severity of the crime.

The case serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability in the healthcare industry and the consequences of defrauding government programs.
