Todd Faustin, False Statements, New York 2026

Grimy Times has learned that Todd Faustin, a 43-year-old former Rikers Island Correction Officer, has pleaded guilty to making false statements to obtain workers’ compensation benefits in a scheme that spanned years and ultimately netted him at least $370,336.79 in benefits to which he was not entitled.

According to the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jay Clayton, Faustin fraudulently received hundreds of thousands of dollars from the City of New York by faking injuries after some of the most delicate and dangerous interactions within our criminal justice system—incidents where force is used against an incarcerated person.

“False workers’ compensation claims place a large cost on all New Yorkers. It’s even worse when the perpetrator is a City employee,” said U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton. “Faustin is not one of them.”

As a correction officer at Rikers Island, Faustin was assigned to work with incarcerated individuals requiring the use of force. During this time, he falsely claimed that he was injured while on duty at Rikers Island, resulting in him receiving the aforementioned benefits.

“Todd Faustin’s resignation with the DOC is effective today, March 17, 2026,” stated the U.S. Attorney’s Office. “Faustin’s plea agreement includes a maximum sentence of five years in prison.”

Todd Faustin, 43, of New York, New York, pled guilty to one count of making false statements related to healthcare matters. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 7, 2026.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office praised the outstanding work of the New York City Department of Investigation, the New York State Office of Inspector General, and the Special Agents and Task Force Officers assigned to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York in bringing this case to light.

The prosecution of this case is being handled by the Office’s Civil Rights and Human Trafficking Unit and the Public Corruption Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kaiya Arroyo and Stephanie Simon are in charge of the prosecution.
