WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – In a stark reminder of the consequences of violating protective orders, Roy Thomas Schroeder, 46, of Volga, West Virginia, was sentenced to 18 months incarceration for illegally possessing firearms, a serious offense that puts innocent lives at risk.
According to court documents, Schroeder admitted to possessing two .22 caliber revolvers and a .22 caliber rifle after a protective order had been issued against him by the Barbour County Magistrate Court. This brazen disregard for the law not only puts himself but also his loved ones in harm’s way.
On January 2016, Schroeder pled guilty to one count of “Unlawful Possession of a Firearm,” a felony that carries serious consequences.
The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey, who took into account the severity of Schroeder’s actions and the potential harm he could have caused.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen D. Warner prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, working tirelessly to ensure Schroeder was held accountable for his actions.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the West Virginia State Police, and the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office investigated Schroeder’s case, highlighting the collaborative effort to keep our communities safe.
Schroeder’s sentence serves as a warning to those who think they can flout the law and put others in harm’s way. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure justice is served and our communities are protected.
