Rollie C. Poynter, Jr., Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, West Virginia 2017

A 51-year-old man from Grafton, West Virginia has been sentenced to prison for illegally possessing a firearm.

Rollie C. Poynter, Jr. was found guilty in a federal court of one count of ‘Unlawful Possession of a Firearm’ in May 2017.

The crime was committed in April 2016 in Taylor County, West Virginia, where Poynter had in his possession a .38 caliber revolver.

Poynter had previously been convicted of felony offenses in West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky.

He is currently serving the state’s sentence and will serve his federal sentence concurrently.

The sentence of 105 months and 11 days was handed down by U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Traci M. Cook prosecuted the case, while the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, and Grafton City Police Department investigated.

Poynter admitted to the crime and pleaded guilty in May 2017.
