Darrin Lamore Pleads Guilty to Government Fund Theft

In a shocking turn of events, former head of the Enfield Community Development Corporation, Darrin Lamore, has pleaded guilty to conspiring to steal government funds. The 47-year-old Enfield resident waived his right to be indicted and pleaded guilty to a conspiracy offense related to the theft of government funds in New Haven federal court.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Lamore conspired with an employee of the Town of Enfield to take funds intended for economic development in Enfield and apply them to Lamore’s salary. The conspirators repeatedly falsified the books and records of the Enfield Community Development Corporation to hide their fraudulent activity and maintain funding for the organization.

Through this scheme, Lamore stole more than $95,000 from the Enfield Community Development Corporation. Lamore pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and theft from a program receiving federal funds, an offense that carries a maximum term of imprisonment of five years.

Lamore has agreed to cooperate with this ongoing investigation as part of his guilty plea. He was arrested on a criminal complaint on February 16, 2018, and is currently released on a $25,000 bond pending sentencing, which has not been scheduled.

The investigation is being conducted by the Connecticut Public Corruption Task Force, which includes members from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Enfield Police Department, the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development – Office of Inspector General, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services – Office of Inspector General, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Liam Brennan.
