Great Falls Man Admits to Child Porn Charges

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – A local resident has admitted to possessing child pornography, according to court records.

Lothar Konrad Krauth, 81, pleaded guilty on Monday to receiving child pornography after an investigation found thousands of images on his computer and electronic storage devices, U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme said.

A cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) led Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents to Krauth’s residence, where they seized electronic media, including a desktop computer, external hard drives, and thumb drives.

Forensic examination of Krauth’s computer found approximately 400 images of child pornography, with further analysis uncovering thousands more.

The majority of the images depicted prepubescent children.

Krauth faces a minimum mandatory five years to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release.

U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided over the case and set sentencing for July 18.

The case was investigated by HSI and the Great Falls Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Tom Bartleson and Cyndee Peterson prosecuting the case.
