St. Thomas Man Sentenced to 48 Months in Prison for Firearms Conspiracy
St. Thomas, USVI – A local man has been sentenced to 48 months in prison for his role in a firearms conspiracy, officials announced.
District Court Judge Curtis V. Gomez handed down the sentence to 23-year-old Ja’Moi Khadeem Corraspe, who was found guilty of conspiracy to ship firearms with obliterated serial numbers.
According to court documents, Corraspe conspired with other individuals to mail two firearms with obliterated serial numbers from Jacksonville, Florida, to St. Thomas between August 6, 2013, and October 7, 2013.
Corraspe, who is not a federally licensed firearm dealer and is not authorized to possess the firearm in the Virgin Islands, pleaded guilty to the charges on September 14, 2015.
As part of his sentence, Corraspe will also serve three years of supervised release, complete 600 hours of community service, and pay a $100 special assessment.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sigrid M. Tejo-Sprotte.
Corraspe’s sentence serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of engaging in firearms-related crimes.
