Baltimore’s Top Cops Honored for Excellence
Baltimore, Maryland – The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Baltimore honored 16 employees and five law enforcement officers for their exceptional work at a ceremony held at the U.S. Courthouse in Baltimore.
U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the award recipients, saying, ‘These award recipients accomplished superb results while respecting our high ethical and professional standards.’
The ceremony also marked the welcome of eight new Assistant U.S. Attorneys and other employees who have joined the Office since last year. Maryland U.S. District Judge George Jarrod Hazel served as the keynote speaker, drawing from his experience as a Maryland Assistant U.S. Attorney from 2008 to 2010.
Robert H. Jackson’s words of wisdom, ‘A sensitiveness to fair play and sportsmanship is perhaps the best protection against the abuse of power, and the citizen’s safety lies in the prosecutor who tempers zeal with human kindness, who seeks truth and not victims, who serves the law and not factional purposes, and who approaches his task with humility,’ were echoed by the U.S. Attorney.
Several awards were presented to employees for their outstanding work, including the Gary Jordan Award, the Barnet D. Skolnik Award, the Employee of the Year Award, the Pete Twardowicz Award, the Excellence in Civil Advocacy Award, and the Excellence in Prosecution of Fraud Award.
The Gary Jordan Award was presented to Evelyn Germani, the Barnet D. Skolnik Award was presented to Harry M. Gruber and Joyce K. McDonald, the Employee of the Year Award was presented to Jeremy M. Warga, the Pete Twardowicz Award was presented to Jason Bender, Cam Costello, Jennifer Perry, Kalliopi Tserkis-Mullins, and Michael Shao, the Excellence in Civil Advocacy Award was presented to Thomas H. Barnard and Roann Nichols, and the Excellence in Prosecution of Fraud Award was presented to Martin J. Clarke and Leo J. Wise.
The awards were established to recognize employees who demonstrate outstanding professionalism, determination, and creativity in their work. The U.S. Attorney’s Office continues to uphold its commitment to excellence, integrity, and achievement.
