Houston, TX – Federal immigration authorities have lodged detainers on two criminal illegal aliens arrested for intoxicated manslaughter in separate incidents over the past month, as ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations Houston continues to crack down on dangerous offenders.
The deadly incidents come on the heels of ICE Houston arresting 21 criminal aliens convicted of intoxicated manslaughter and 243 aliens with three or more DWI convictions during President Trump’s first year back in office, according to federal officials.
Enrique Acevedo Barocio, a 27-year-old criminal illegal alien from Mexico, was lodged with an immigration detainer at the Harris County Jail on February 2 after his arrest for intoxicated manslaughter. Manuel Neri Mendoza, a 37-year-old previously returned criminal illegal alien from Mexico with two prior DWI convictions, was lodged with a detainer on February 24 following his intoxicated manslaughter arrest.
“After violating our nation’s laws to illegally enter the country, these criminal illegal aliens repeatedly put the lives of innocent Americans in jeopardy by getting behind the wheel intoxicated,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Houston acting Field Office Director Gabriel Martinez. “Tragically, at least 23 families will wake up tomorrow without a loved one as a result of this reckless criminal behavior.”
In the most recent incident involving Mendoza, authorities allege he attempted to flee the scene, leaving a 3-year-old child alone in a wrecked vehicle with their deceased mother. The incident highlights a disturbing pattern, as ICE Houston arrested 98 criminal illegal aliens in the past year who fled accident scenes and were convicted of failing to stop and give aid.
“It has become extremely common for criminal illegal aliens to flee from ICE and other law enforcement,” Martinez said. “This is a direct result of elected officials demonizing our officers and encouraging aliens to evade arrest.”
Among the criminal aliens arrested by ICE Houston last year with prior intoxicated manslaughter or multiple DWI convictions were Samuel Valenzuela-Martinez, a 55-year-old five-time deported Mexican national with three prior DWI convictions and one hit-and-run conviction; Jose Jaudencio Coj Pocop, a 32-year-old Guatemalan with prior intoxicated manslaughter, DWI, hit-and-run and assault convictions; Leticia Caballero Guadarrama, a 54-year-old six-time removed Mexican national with six DWI convictions; Ramiro Castillo Juarez, a 38-year-old three-time removed Mexican national previously convicted of intoxicated manslaughter; and Humberto Romero Avila, a 46-year-old five-time removed Mexican national with five DWI convictions.
