Meth Ring Busted in Watertown
Watertown, SD – In a major blow to the city’s underworld, three men and one woman have been charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, specifically 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance.
The indictment, revealed on June 13, 2018, alleges that Amos Hall, 35, a/k/a Amos Lee Hall, IV, Dayvon Byrd, 28, Danny Callahan, 39, and Alexis Dumarce, 30, knowingly and intentionally combined, conspired, confederated, and agreed with persons known and unknown to distribute and possess with intent to distribute the highly addictive and potent substance.
According to the indictment, the alleged conspiracy took place from November 23, 2017, to February 28, 2018. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a mandatory minimum of 10 years, up to life, in federal prison and/or a $10,000,000 fine, at least 5 years, up to life, of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
While Callahan was released on bond, Hall, Byrd, and Dumarce were remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial, which has been set for August 28, 2018. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges is prosecuting the case, while the investigation is being conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force.
The charge is merely an accusation, and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle against the scourge of methamphetamine distribution in our communities.
