NYPD Video Unveiled in Jumaane Wright Death Probe

New York – In a groundbreaking move to increase transparency and public trust in law enforcement, New York Attorney General Letitia James has released body-worn camera footage from the investigation into the tragic death of Jumaane Wright on April 29, 2025.

The incident unfolded at approximately 8:10 p.m. when NYPD officers encountered Mr. Wright on the Belt Parkway near Rockaway Parkway in Brooklyn. The encounter resulted in Mr. Wright being shot by an officer, who was later transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

The Office of Special Investigation (OSI) within the Attorney General’s Office is mandated to assess all incidents reported where a police or peace officer may have caused death through act or omission, on-duty or off-duty. The OSI conducts full investigations when an officer’s involvement is indicated, as was the case with Mr. Wright.

Attorney General James has directed that camera footage obtained during OSI investigations be made public, emphasizing transparency. This release does not indicate any opinion regarding guilt or innocence in a criminal matter or whether charges may be filed against any individual involved.

Warning: The video contains disturbing content and is intended for mature audiences only.

This footage serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing debate over police brutality and the necessity for thorough investigations to ensure justice for all parties involved.
