Pine Ridge Woman Sentenced to 10 Years for Meth Conspiracy
A 29-year-old woman from Pine Ridge, South Dakota, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for her role in a massive methamphetamine conspiracy.
Dawn Rose Dowty was convicted of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance and was sentenced by Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on July 29, 2019. She was also ordered to serve 5 years of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The indictment, which was handed down by a federal grand jury in March 2018, alleged that Dowty and at least one other person distributed 500 grams or more of methamphetamine in the District of South Dakota and elsewhere between 2012 and 2018.
The investigation, which was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Badlands Safe Trails Drug Task Force, and the Rapid City Police Department, revealed a large-scale methamphetamine operation that went undetected for years.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Gina Nelson prosecuted the case, which is ongoing. Additional co-conspirators are pending trial and face similar charges.
Dowty was immediately taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service and will begin serving her 10-year sentence. The case serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of methamphetamine on our communities and the importance of continued efforts to combat this deadly drug.
The investigation and prosecution of this case are a testament to the tireless work of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors who are committed to keeping our communities safe.
