NY AG James Takes EPA to Task Over Climate Change Denial

New York Attorney General Letitia James is leading a united front against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in a move to overturn the agency’s 2009 Endangerment Finding that links greenhouse gas emissions to climate change and public health threats.

“Climate change is real, it is dangerous, and it is already hurting communities,” James stated. “The EPA’s proposal to disregard science and abandon its responsibility to protect Americans is reckless.”

The coalition argues that reversing the Endangerment Finding would violate established law and scientific consensus, posing grave risks to millions of Americans, especially vulnerable populations. The coalition also emphasized the critical importance of maintaining stringent federal vehicle emissions standards, which are vital in combating climate change and protecting public health.

James has previously led efforts against a DOE Climate Working Group report that she claims misrepresents climate science and fails to meet scientific integrity standards. She called for the report’s withdrawal, emphasizing the need to base policy on reliable, peer-reviewed research.

This battle represents a significant confrontation over environmental regulation and public health, with James at the forefront of efforts to preserve and enforce critical environmental protections under federal law.
