Waterloo Man Pleads Guilty To Child Porn Distribution

Charles Adkins, a 46-year-old resident of Waterloo, Iowa, has pleaded guilty to distributing and possessing child pornography. The admission came on March 4, 2013, in federal court in Cedar Rapids.

Adkins confessed to using the Internet between December 2011 and February 2012 to distribute child pornographic material. He also admitted to having possessed child porn on a laptop computer from September 2011 to March 2012.

The sentencing hearing is pending after a presentence report has been prepared, according to court documents. Adkins was immediately taken into custody by the United States Marshal and will remain in pre-sentence detention. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years’ imprisonment and could be sentenced to up to 30 years, along with a fine of $500,000.

The investigation was conducted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office, the Waterloo Police Department, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Pensacola, Florida, Police Department.
