Marion Man Accused of Exploiting Child

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA – Kevin Andrew Jauron, 39, of Marion, Iowa, is facing a lifetime of regret – and potentially decades behind bars – after being indicted on federal charges of producing child pornography. The indictment, filed November 18, 2014, in United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa, alleges a sickening act of exploitation that has rocked the quiet community.

According to court documents, Jauron allegedly used a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct around March 13, 2014, with the explicit intent of creating visual depictions of the abuse. The details are gruesome, and Grimy Times is choosing not to publish specifics that could further victimize the child involved. This isn’t just a crime; it’s a betrayal of innocence and a permanent scar on a young life.

If convicted, Jauron faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in federal prison. The maximum penalty escalates to a staggering 30 years. Beyond imprisonment, he could be slapped with a $250,000 fine, a $100 special assessment, and a minimum of five years – potentially extending to a lifetime – under supervised release following his incarceration. This isn’t a slap on the wrist; it’s a potential life sentence for a heinous crime.

Jauron made his initial appearance in federal court in Cedar Rapids today, where a judge deemed him a flight risk and ordered him held without bond. His next court date, where a trial date will be set, is scheduled for January 26, 2015. The wheels of justice are turning, but the pain inflicted on the victim will linger far beyond any courtroom proceedings.

The investigation was spearheaded by the Marion Police Department, working in conjunction with the Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (Iowa ICAC). This case highlights the crucial work these dedicated professionals do to track down predators and protect vulnerable children. More information about the Iowa ICAC can be found at http://www.iaicac.org/Pages/welcome.aspx.

Assistant United States Attorney Peter Deegan is prosecuting the case. As always, it’s important to remember that an indictment is simply an accusation, and Jauron is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. However, the evidence presented thus far paints a disturbing picture. Court file information is available at https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/login.pl, case file number 14-128. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on any developments.
