Ramius Hardiman Gets 34 Months

Ramius Hardiman, a 21-year-old from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been sentenced to almost three years in federal prison for unlawfully possessing a firearm. Hardiman pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a felon on May 23, 2014.

At the plea hearing, Hardiman admitted to possessing a Taurus 9mm pistol on May 8, 2013. This was a clear violation of the law, as Hardiman is prohibited from possessing firearms due to his felony conviction for Involuntary Manslaughter in October 2011.

The sentencing took place in Cedar Rapids, with United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade handing down the prison term. Hardiman was sentenced to 34 months’ imprisonment, along with a special assessment of $100. He will also serve a three-year term of supervised release after the prison term, with no chance of parole in the federal system.

Hardiman is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a cooperative local, state, and federal program aimed at the enhanced prosecution of gun crimes.
