Russell Lloyd Norvell, Child Pornography Possession, GA, 2013

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: In a stark reminder of the perils of online predators, Russell Lloyd Norvell, 44, from Doerun, Georgia, has been handed a 61-month sentence for possession of child pornography. United States Attorney Michael J. Moore announced that on August 26, 2013, Senior U.S. District Judge Hugh Lawson sentenced Norvell to serve his term in federal prison followed by 25 years of supervised release and mandatory sex offender registration.

Norvell’s guilty plea came on June 3, 2013, after he admitted using a computer at his residence to search for and download child pornography from March to May 2011. An investigation led by the Department of Homeland Security and Homeland Security Investigations traced an IP address linked to Norvell’s home, resulting in a search warrant executed on June 23, 2011.

During the search, agents discovered numerous computers, one of which was used by Norvell to access child pornography. They also found a thumbdrive and a DVD containing explicit material. The search yielded over 600 images and videos depicting minors, including children under twelve, engaged in sexual activity, some involving sadistic and masochistic conduct.

“Mr. Norvell’s actions have caused these young children to be re-victimized with every viewing of the pictures and videos,” said U.S. Attorney Moore. “The Department of Justice is committed to protecting our children by pursuing individuals like Mr. Norvell.”

The case was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert D. McCullers. Any inquiries should be directed to Sue McKinney, Public Affairs Specialist at (478) 621-2602.
