Robert Girard, Receipt of Child Pornography, NY, 2023

Robert Girard, 56, a resident of Massena, New York, was handed an 84-month prison term for the receipt of child pornography in Utica’s United States District Court. The sentence, announced by United States Attorney Richard S. Hartunian and Homeland Security Investigations Assistant Special Agent in Charge Nicholas DiNicola, is a stark reminder of the severity with which such crimes are treated.

Hartunian emphasized the horror of the crime, stating, ‘The receipt and viewing of child pornography is an atrocious crime.’ He praised collaborative law enforcement efforts that led to Girard’s conviction.

DiNicola echoed these sentiments, emphasizing Homeland Security Investigations’ dedication to targeting child predators. ‘Child exploitation cases are among our highest priorities,’ he said.

Girard pleaded guilty on October 16, 2014, admitting to using peer-to-peer software for downloading and sharing child pornography. His sentence includes supervised release, sex offender registration, a $100 special assessment, and the forfeiture of any equipment used in the offense.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Katherine Kopita under Project Safe Childhood, a federal initiative aimed at protecting children from online exploitation. For more information on Project Safe Childhood, visit www.projectsafechildhood.gov.
