ORLANDO, FL – A late December stick-up at a local Circle K has landed a Sanford man in federal custody. Dontreaun Alexander, 24, has been formally charged with interference of interstate commerce by robbery, stemming from the December 28, 2014, hold-up at the convenience store located at 7530 Forest City Road.
According to federal prosecutors, Alexander and his accomplice, Brandon Maurice Long, allegedly stormed the Circle K wielding weapons. Long was taken into custody the same night, and subsequently indicted on February 4, 2015. Alexander, however, managed to evade immediate capture, remaining on the run for nearly a month before being apprehended on February 23, 2015.
United States Attorney A. Lee Bentley, III announced the charges today, stating that if convicted, Alexander faces a maximum penalty of 20 years behind federal bars. The charge of interference of interstate commerce by robbery carries a significant sentence, reflecting the federal government’s jurisdiction over crimes that impact the flow of goods across state lines.
While the details of the robbery itself remain largely sealed in court documents, sources confirm that the incident involved the use of force and the potential threat to Circle K employees and customers. The quick response by both the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office was critical in bringing both suspects to justice, even if delayed in Alexander’s case.
It’s important to remember, as the Department of Justice routinely emphasizes, that a complaint is merely an accusation. Alexander, like all defendants in the American legal system, is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. He is entitled to a full and fair defense.
Assistant United States Attorneys Vincent Chiu and Kara M. Wick are assigned to the case and will be responsible for prosecuting Alexander. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as it moves through the federal court system and will report any further developments. This is just another example of the relentless crime plaguing the Sunshine State, and the Grimy Times is here to expose it.
