Darrick Belcher Sentenced

Cocaine and crack cocaine distribution has landed one Alabama man behind bars. Darrick Donnell Belcher, 36, of Marion, has been sentenced in federal court for his participation in a conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute these illicit substances.

Belcher pled guilty to the charge in October of 2014, setting the stage for his sentencing. United States District Court Judge Callie V. S. Granade imposed a sentence of 57 months imprisonment in Belcher’s case, to be followed by a three-year term of supervised release.

The sentence handed down by Judge Granade also includes a requirement for Belcher to undergo drug treatment while incarcerated and during his term of supervised release. This comprehensive approach aims to address the root causes of Belcher’s involvement in the drug trade, as well as prevent future offenses.

No fine was imposed in Belcher’s case, but he was ordered to pay a special mandatory assessment of $100. This financial penalty is a small part of the overall consequences Belcher will face as a result of his actions.

The case against Belcher was the result of a collaborative investigation involving the 4th Judicial Circuit Task Force, the Alabama Attorney General’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. These agencies worked together to gather evidence and build a case against Belcher, ultimately leading to his conviction and sentencing.

Assistant United States Attorney Gloria Bedwell prosecuted the case in the United States Attorney’s Office, ensuring that justice was served. The successful prosecution of Belcher sends a strong message to those involved in the drug trade that their actions will not be tolerated and will be met with severe consequences.

As the war on drugs continues, cases like Belcher’s serve as a reminder of the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the need for aggressive prosecution of those involved in the trade. By working together, we can create safer communities and reduce the scourge of drug addiction that affects so many lives.
