Two individuals have been indicted for a chilling terrorist hoax plot in Oklahoma City. ISRAA JAFAR ALI, 19, and SAJJAD HUSSEIN AL FEHAIDAH, 23, are accused of conspiracy to make a terrorist hoax and making a terrorist hoax. According to the indictment, Ali, from Oklahoma City, called the Edmond Police Department, falsely reporting an impending suicide bombing at a Christian church by a Saudi Arabian student.
The alleged scheme was orchestrated with Al Fenaidah, who is also from Saudi Arabia, providing the cell phone and researching biographical information. The motive: to retaliate against the Saudi Arabian male international student. Both defendants face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.
This isn’t just another crime story; it’s a threat to community safety and an abuse of trust. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been instrumental in the investigation, with assistance from various agencies like the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the United States Secret Service.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Ed Kumiega is handling the prosecution, and the public is reminded that these are charges, not convictions. Both Ali and Al Fenaidah are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by false terror threats and the meticulous efforts required to investigate such claims. The Edmond Police Department deserves credit for their swift response and cooperation in this matter.
This case underscores the serious nature of making terrorist hoaxes, which can lead to panic, wasted resources, and potentially harm to innocent citizens. It’s a reminder that false alarms have real consequences and are taken seriously by law enforcement.
