POCATELLO, ID – Caitlin Eagle, 25, of Fort Hall, Idaho, faced the harsh realities of justice today as she was sentenced to twelve months and one day in federal prison. This sentence, announced by U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson, also includes six months in a halfway house and three years of supervised release.
The harrowing incident that led to Eagle’s conviction began on February 18, 2014. Responding to a report of shots fired, Fort Hall police were met with a chaotic scene. The caller described suspects dressed in black fleeing the area. As an officer approached a person in a black coat—later identified as Eagle—the situation quickly escalated.
Eagle was uncooperative and gave the officer a false name, adding fuel to the flames of confrontation. An odor of alcohol filled the air, in clear violation of Fort Hall tribal law. When the officer attempted to arrest her, Eagle became combative, striking the officer several times in the face. Despite injuries to his cheek and nose, the officer managed to subdue Eagle with the help of another officer and placed her into a police car.
After treatment at the hospital for abrasions, Eagle faced serious charges. The Fort Hall Police Department conducted an extensive investigation that led to today’s sentencing. U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson emphasized the severity of the offense, stating, ‘Assaulting federal officers is a serious crime and will not be tolerated in our community.’
Eagle’s sentence sends a clear message about the consequences of violent actions against law enforcement officials. The Fort Hall Police Department commended the efforts of all involved in bringing this case to justice.
This grim chapter in Fort Hall’s history serves as a stark reminder of the bravery of those who serve and protect our communities, and the serious penalties for those who would dare to harm them.
