Latin Kings Leader Jailed for 18 Months

BOSTON – A leader of the Massachusetts Almighty Latin King and Queen Nation (Latin Kings) has been sentenced to 18 months in prison and three years of supervised release for drug conspiracy charges.

Bienvenido Nunez, a/k/a ‘King Apache,’ 33, was sentenced by U.S. Senior District Court Judge Rya W. Zobel for conspiring to distribute cocaine base.

Nunez pleaded guilty to the charges in October 2020, after being charged in December 2019. At the time of his arrest, he was identified as the Inca, or leader, of the Massachusetts Latin Kings.

According to court documents, Nunez admitted to conspiring with other Latin Kings members and leaders to possess cocaine base, also known as crack cocaine, with the intent to distribute it. In September 2019, Nunez conspired with others to obtain cocaine base from members of the Latin Kings in New Bedford for resale.

A video recording from September 29, 2019, captured Nunez bagging an amount of cocaine base in the basement of a Latin Kings trap house in New Bedford, which was intended for street-level distribution.

The Latin Kings are a violent criminal enterprise with thousands of members across the United States. The gang adheres to a national manifesto, employs an internal judiciary, and uses a sophisticated system of communication to maintain its hierarchy.

The case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation, which aims to disrupt and dismantle high-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States.

United States Attorney Andrew E. Lelling, Joseph R. Bonavolonta, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Division, Commissioner Carol Mici of the Massachusetts Department of Correction, and Worcester Police Chief Steven M. Sargent made the announcement.

Nunez is the eighth defendant to be sentenced in the case, which also involved the FBI North Shore Gang Task Force and the Bristol County and Suffolk County District Attorney’s Offices.
