Jermaine Calvin Jeffries Pleads Guilty to USP Lee Drug Smuggling, A…

ABINGDON, VIRGINIA – Jermaine Calvin Jeffries, 44, an inmate at the United States Federal Penitentiary in Lee County, Virginia, USP Lee, admitted to conspiring with others to bring illegal narcotics into the prison, according to United States Attorney John P. Fishwick Jr.

Jeffries waived his right to be indicted and pled guilty today in District Court in Abingdon to a one-count Information charging him with conspiring with others to provide a prohibited object, methamphetamine, to other inmates. The defendant will face sentencing on January 11, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., also in Abingdon.

‘We must do all we can to maintain law and order, both inside and outside the walls of a federal penitentiary,’ said United States Attorney Fishwick. ‘The individuals involved in this criminal behavior attempted to bring illegal drugs into USP Lee, but their efforts were thwarted thanks to the diligent work of those working within the prison.’

Jeffries conspired with associates to supply inmates at USP Lee with methamphetamine, Suboxone, and marijuana. Their scheme included phone calls to arrange for the transport of methamphetamine and an attempted smuggling attempt from outside the prison to incarcerated individuals within USP Lee.

The investigation into this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, while Assistant United States Attorney Randy Ramseyer prosecuted the matter for the United States.
