U.S. Attorney to Monitor Election Fraud in Kansas

A federal prosecutor is standing by to crack down on any signs of election fraud or voter suppression in Kansas on Election Day, Acting U.S. Attorney Tom Beall announced today. With polls opening Nov. 8, Assistant U.S. Attorney Leon Patton will be on call to respond to credible reports of illegal interference with the voting process.

Patton can be reached directly at 913-551-6730 while polls are open. His role is part of a nationwide Justice Department initiative to ensure election integrity, with federal prosecutors stationed across the country ready to act on potential federal crimes.

“Every citizen must be able to vote without interference or discrimination and to have that vote counted without it being stolen because of fraud,” Beall said. “We will act promptly and aggressively to protect the integrity of the election process.”

Despite the heightened readiness, Beall emphasized he does not anticipate major issues. Still, he warned that federal law carries stiff penalties for anyone attempting to manipulate election outcomes, intimidate voters, or obstruct lawful voting rights.

The FBI’s Kansas City Field Office is also mobilized, with special agents ready to receive tips on election crimes. The public can report fraud, intimidation, or suppression via the FBI’s toll-free hotline at 1-855-527-2847 or by email at kcpctip@ic.fbi.gov.

Additional complaints about violations of federal voting rights laws can be filed with the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division in Washington, D.C., by calling 1-800-253-3931 or 202-307-2767, faxing 202-307-3961, emailing voting.section@usdoj.gov, or using the online complaint form at http://www.justice.gov/crt/complaint/votintake/index.php. State and local election issues should be directed to the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office at 1-800-262-8683 or the appropriate county election office.
