Vestal Man Arrested on Child Porn Charges

Binghamton, NY — A 50-year-old Vestal man is behind bars after federal authorities moved in on explosive child pornography charges. Nathan E. Boguhn was arrested today following the unsealing of a criminal complaint accusing him of possessing and distributing vile child pornography across digital networks from his home computer.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the charges stem from evidence gathered during a court-authorized search of Boguhn’s residence. Investigators allege his personal computer contained numerous videos depicting the sexual abuse of minors. Federal prosecutors say Boguhn didn’t just hoard the material—he actively shared it, making him a distributor in the eyes of the law.

United States Attorney Richard S. Hartunian confirmed the arrest, emphasizing that digital crimes against children are met with full federal force. ‘The exploitation of children through pornography is a heinous crime that inflicts lasting trauma,’ Hartunian stated. ‘We are committed to dismantling these networks and holding offenders accountable.’

If convicted, Nathan E. Boguhn faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to twenty years in federal prison. He would also be subject to a supervised release term of at least five years—potentially for life—and must register as a sex offender. Federal sentencing guidelines weigh heavily on distribution charges, and judges consider the volume and nature of material when determining punishment.

Boguhn appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge David E. Peebles today and was ordered detained ahead of a bail hearing set for November 2, 2016, in Syracuse. No bond was offered as prosecutors argued he poses a danger to the community and a flight risk given the severity of the allegations.

The investigation was a joint effort between the FBI, New York State Police, and Vestal Town Police, operating under the umbrella of Project Safe Childhood—a DOJ initiative launched in 2006 to combat online child exploitation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Miroslav Lovric is prosecuting the case. The charges remain allegations; Boguhn is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
