A brutal methamphetamine dealer has been sentenced to 138 months in prison for distributing the deadly drug. Augustus Quintrell Light, 40, a Mahnomen County resident, was caught with over 50 grams of pure methamphetamine, a digital scale, and three rounds of .45 caliber ammunition.
Light was arrested in December 2019 after law enforcement executed a search warrant at a residence in Bemidji, where he was located. The raid also yielded a locked safe at his primary residence in Naytahwaush, containing small quantities of controlled substances, $4,800 in cash, and three rounds of .45 caliber ammunition.
But that was not the first run-in with the law for Light. In March 2019, he was pulled over in Bemidji for having an expired registration. When officers smelled marijuana from inside his vehicle, he refused to comply and drove away at a high rate of speed, leading them on a high-speed chase through the city.
Acting U.S. Attorney W. Anders Folk for the District of Minnesota announced the sentencing. Senior U.S. District Judge Paul A. Magnuson handed down the 138-month prison sentence, which will be followed by five years of supervised release.
The case was the result of an investigation conducted by the Mahnomen County Attorney’s Office, the Beltrami County Attorney’s Office, the Paul Bunyan Task Force, the Bemidji Police Department, and the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Alexander D. Chiquoine and Ruth Shnider prosecuted the case. The prosecution highlights the ongoing battle against methamphetamine distribution in northern Minnesota.
The Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates on the sentencing of Augustus Quintrell Light. In the meantime, residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
