A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy admitted today he lied to federal agents investigating a Beverly Hills crypto hustler who allegedly strong-armed a party planner out of $25,000. Scott Allen Simpkins, 34, pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice, admitting he covered up witnessing the intimidation at a Bel Air mansion back in August 2021. The case exposes a web of off-duty deputies moonlighting as private security for a suspect now known as “The Godfather.”

Simpkins was assigned to the Lakewood Station and SWAT team when he took a side gig with Saavedra & Associates, a private security firm run by fellow LASD Deputy Eric Chase Saavedra, 43. The company hired out active deputies for private details, and Simpkins worked roughly six to eight shifts for cash. He was working security for Adam Iza, 25, the self-proclaimed crypto “mogul” when the alleged extortion took place.

Court papers show the trouble began after a party at Iza’s Bel Air estate in the early hours of August 15, 2021. The party planner, identified only as “R.C.,” was ejected from the party for disruptive behavior. Simpkins allegedly witnessed Iza threaten “R.C.” and demand $25,000. When the FBI started digging into Iza’s operation, Simpkins flat-out denied seeing anything.

Iza is already locked up, having pleaded guilty in January 2025 to conspiracy, wire fraud, and tax evasion. He’s awaiting sentencing. Simpkins, who was relieved of duty but hasn’t officially left the LASD, now faces a potential prison sentence for attempting to bury the truth. Fellow deputy Christopher Michael Cadman, 34, was also at the party and remains under scrutiny.
