Willie Harper, a 48-year-old resident of Guilford, Maine, has been sentenced to 21 months in federal prison for distributing heroin and oxycodone. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge John Woodcock, also includes three years of supervised release.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine announced that Harper pleaded guilty on June 1, 2016, to selling a quantity of heroin and ten oxycodone pills to an undercover law enforcement officer. The transactions took place in Guilford on August 13, 2015, and two weeks later, respectively.
According to court records, Harper’s criminal history is extensive, including felony convictions for armed robbery, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, unlawful delivery of a controlled substance in Illinois, and sexual abuse of a minor in Maine. His sentence reflects the severity of his crimes and their impact on the community.
Assistant United States Attorney Jody Mullis commented that Harper’s actions have contributed significantly to Maine’s ongoing heroin crisis. ‘This sentence is a testament to the seriousness with which we view drug trafficking in our state,’ said Mullis.
The investigation leading to Harper’s conviction was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Greenville, Maine Police Department, showcasing the collaborative efforts of federal and local law enforcement agencies to combat drug crimes.
