Andrew C. Tillman, 32, of Belleville, IL, is headed to federal prison for a decade after being sentenced today on multiple drug and firearms charges, U.S. Attorney Donald S. Boyce for the Southern District of Illinois announced. The conviction marks the end of a case rooted in a December 2015 arrest that exposed Tillman’s dangerous double life—dealing meth while strapped with a loaded weapon.
Tillman pled guilty on October 27, 2016, to three federal counts: possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. At his plea hearing, he admitted to being caught with approximately 80 grams—nearly three ounces—of methamphetamine, a stash clearly meant for sale, not personal use.
Alongside the drugs, authorities found a semiautomatic pistol on Tillman during the December 14, 2015, arrest in Belleville. That weapon, combined with his known felony record, triggered enhanced federal penalties. Prosecutors emphasized that armed drug dealers like Tillman don’t just break laws—they endanger entire neighborhoods.
Tillman has been in custody since the day he was arrested, meaning he’s already served time, but the 10-year sentence ensures he’ll remain behind bars for years to come. Federal sentencing guidelines weighed heavily on his prior record and the presence of a firearm, which automatically ratchets up punishment under U.S. law.
The case was built by investigators from the Belleville Police Department and the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Drug Tactical Unit, whose persistent work dismantled another link in the region’s underground drug trade. Their collaboration led to physical evidence, admissions, and ultimately, a guilty plea with no trial drama.
Assistant United States Attorney Robert L. Garrison prosecuted the case, pushing for accountability in a region plagued by meth distribution and gun violence. Tillman’s sentence sends a clear message: deal drugs, pack heat, and the federal system will come down hard.
