Joseph Leroy Miles, Sr., Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distr…

Greenbelt, Maryland – In a stark blow to the drug trade in Maryland, U.S. District Judge Deborah K. Chasanow sentenced 63-year-old Joseph Leroy Miles, Sr., of Westernport, to nine years in federal prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute crack cocaine.

Miles was also ordered to serve five years of supervised release following his prison term. His sentencing marked the culmination of an investigation that revealed a vast network of drug distribution operations.

The court heard that Miles conspired with others from March 2015 to April 30, 2015, purchasing cocaine and crack from suppliers in Silver Spring, Maryland, for redistribution in Westernport and surrounding areas. On March 1, 2015, law enforcement intercepted a conversation between Miles and his supplier George Earl Gee, arranging a drug deal. The following day, Miles purchased three and a half ounces of powder cocaine for $4,200 from Gee.

Montgomery County Police later seized 62 grams of crack from an associate during a traffic stop, ending Miles’ distribution route. According to court documents, Miles had previously arranged to sell the drugs he acquired from Gee.

Jovan Brian Lancaster, 32, was sentenced by Judge Chasanow to eight years in prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin and cocaine. Lancaster, who also resided in Gaithersburg, Maryland, conspired with Gee between February and April 2015 to distribute drugs within Montgomery County.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein hailed the coordinated efforts of the FBI, Montgomery County Police Department, Prince George’s County Police Department, Rockville City Police Department, and the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office in bringing this drug conspiracy to an end. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joseph R. Baldwin, Jennifer R. Sykes, and Daniel C. Gardner are prosecuting the case.
