Orlando, FL – In a shocking turn of events, Luis Miguel Plaza, a 33-year-old man from Orlando, has pleaded guilty to distributing and possessing with the intent to distribute fentanyl, a deadly opioid. The harsh reality of Plaza’s crimes has left the community reeling, with many left wondering how such a heinous crime could have occurred in their own backyard.
According to court documents, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) used an undercover agent and confidential informants to conduct multiple controlled purchases of fentanyl from Plaza. The DEA’s meticulous investigation revealed that Plaza sold the undercover agent and a confidential informant a total of over 1,100 pills weighing approximately 115 grams and containing fentanyl and para-fluorofentanyl, an analogue of fentanyl, in August 2023 and January 2024. The brazen nature of Plaza’s crimes has left many stunned, with some questioning how he thought he could get away with such a heinous act.
The investigation, which was led by the DEA, revealed that Plaza’s involvement in the fentanyl trade went far beyond a single transaction. In February 2024, a confidential informant arranged for another fentanyl transaction with Plaza, but this time, Plaza was caught with his hand in the cookie jar. At the time of his arrest, Plaza was in possession of over 7,000 pills weighing approximately 750 grams and containing fentanyl and para-fluorofentanyl, which he intended to sell to the confidential informant.
The sheer scale of Plaza’s operation has left many reeling, with some wondering how he managed to evade law enforcement for so long. The DEA’s use of undercover agents and confidential informants paid off in this case, as Plaza’s crimes were finally brought to light. The community is breathing a sigh of relief, knowing that Plaza will face the consequences of his actions.
U.S. Attorney Roger B. Handberg announced Plaza’s guilty plea, stating that the case is a stark reminder of the dangers of fentanyl and the importance of holding those responsible accountable.
