Lauren Sherman, a 32-year-old woman from Winnebago, Nebraska, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for committing child abuse in Indian Country.
According to a federal court ruling, Sherman was found guilty of intentionally assaulting a minor child in March 2023. The assault left the child with noticeable bruising, which was first observed at the child’s school.
Following an investigation, it was revealed that Sherman physically assaulted the child, resulting in the bruises.
The case was prosecuted in federal court because the offense was a felony and occurred on the Winnebago Indian Reservation in Nebraska.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) led the investigation into Sherman’s crimes.
Lauren Sherman, age 32, was sentenced on November 22, 2024, in federal court in Omaha, Nebraska, by Chief United States District Court Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr.
As part of her sentence, Sherman will serve a 1-year term of supervised release after her release from prison. There is no parole in the federal system.
