BOISE – The grim halls of justice were echoing with another disturbing case yesterday as Ronald Lallatin, a 60-year-old resident of Boise, Idaho, pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography. According to Acting U.S. Attorney Rafael Gonzalez’s office, Lallatin admitted that he had been viewing such material for at least five years.
In June 2016, Department of Homeland Security agents executed a search warrant at Lallatin’s residence in Boise. Evidence pointed to a computer accessing and downloading child pornography videos, which police found upon searching the premises. Lallatin was present during the raid and confessed his dark secret to law enforcement.
The investigators were not disappointed as they discovered 6,484 still images and 937 videos depicting the sexual exploitation of minors, including infants and toddlers. The content ranged from prepubescent children to sadistic and masochistic acts involving minors.
Lallatin’s sentencing is scheduled for May 22, 2017, before Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, at least five years of supervised release, and a special assessment of $5,000. His plea also includes the forfeiture of the computer and electronic storage devices used in the offense.
This case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by federal prosecutors and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, the project aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute those who exploit children and rescue victims.
