KANSAS CITY, MO – Steven Michael George, 45, of Belton, Missouri, will spend the next three decades in federal prison after being sentenced to 360 months – 30 years – for distributing and hoarding child pornography. U.S. District Judge Stephen R. Bough handed down the sentence today, along with a lifetime of supervised release and sex offender registration.

George pleaded guilty to one count of distributing the vile material, but his sentence was dramatically increased due to a long and disturbing history. Court records show George was already a convicted sex offender, previously busted in Missouri for first-degree statutory sodomy, child molestation, and possessing child pornography.

Federal investigators say George used a peer-to-peer file-sharing network between March and July of 2023 to spread images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children. A search of his devices turned up even more CSAM, as the material is grimly known. The sentence also includes a $36,000 order for restitution to the victims featured in the images and videos.

The case was a joint effort between the FBI and the Kansas City Police Department, and falls under the umbrella of ‘Project Safe Childhood’ – a nationwide DOJ initiative aimed at tackling child sexual exploitation.
