PITTSBURGH – In a stunning twist of justice, Samuel Quib-Chub, a 28-year-old Mexican citizen, has been hit with serious charges for illegal re-entry into the United States. According to Acting United States Attorney Soo C. Song, Quib-Chub now stands accused before a federal grand jury.
The indictment, filed in Pittsburgh, states that Quib-Chub was apprehended in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, on January 24, 2017. The evidence suggests that he had unlawfully re-entered the country after being removed four times previously.
Under federal law, Quib-Chub faces a maximum sentence of two years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both. Assistant United States Attorney Adam N. Hallowell will handle the prosecution on behalf of the government.
The investigation leading to this indictment was conducted by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). As it stands now, an indictment is merely an accusation, and Quib-Chub is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
According to the law, the actual sentence imposed will depend on the severity of the offense and any prior criminal history of the defendant. This case is a stark reminder of the strict immigration laws in the United States and the government’s commitment to enforcing them.
